Amy Jans, born and raised in Lakehurst, New Jersey- discovered the actual upsides of living in the armpit, fist-pumping capitol of the country... the access to a bus to New York City! At the age of twelve, she convinced her mom to let her commute to NYC for acting workshops and classes. At the age of seventeen, she completed the American Academy of Dramatic Arts summer intensive program. All of these acting workshops and classes all independently financed by herself with her babysitting and Domino's Pizza employment cash, of course. After graduating high school, Amy got accepted into many theater programs, and decided on attending New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts in Manhattan. There, she studied the Meisner technique, Stanislavski, view-points, and voice-and speech techniques. She had improv comedy as an elective, and there- she found a whole other love, comedy. Unable to afford the $29,000 for the last year of school, Amy at the age of nineteen, moved back home for two months, and then was like "Nope. I got to get back to good ol' New York City". She searched for places to live, knowing rent in NYC is crazy, she combobulated a variety of plans to live there- one being "if I could just get twelve people, we could divvy up a loft in Brooklyn, I'll get those little chinese room dividers, and then rent would be super cheap- and it will be perfect!" Of course that didn't work out, but sharing a bedroom with a Bosnian nanny that she never met that she found on Craigslist, did! (Shhh.... her mom still think's she shared a bedroom with a friend from school!) So- off to NYC again! She worked as an assistant baker and sandwich maker in SoHo, and would hit up the stand-up comedy open mic's at night time. She landed a hosting gig at the Thursday night open mic for stand up comedy at Eastville Comedy Club in the East Village. Besides having her purse stolen on the F train and the MTA sitting in their fish-tanks chewing bubblegum doing nothing to help, things were going great in NYC... until she got laid off at her job. Convinced forever, that things happen for a reason- Amy took it as a "sign" to pack up and head west. So- off she went, moving into a place she found on Craigslist again- sharing a living room floor. The lady did turn out to be slightly a loon- as she made her sign a contract saying "do not touch the cat's towel, the towel is his bed- I promise to always squeegee the mirror after I take a shower- I will turn the door knob quietly as this is not a 9-5 house hold!" Amy knew that her living situation was only temporary, but moving to LA was just right! Especially after an hour of hopping of the airplane moving to LA, she went to see a live taping of "The Price Is Right", got on- and won a motor scooter- tool-set- and a stereo system! After one week of looking for a job, Amy secured one, and has been in LA since!
Amy has many colors to her personality. A hint of nueroticness after mirroring a small portion of her mom's OCD tendencies, the wheel's in her mind will always be churning! Those wheels consisting of pro's, con's, arrow's going this way and that way to lead to a decision. A hint of innocence and curiosity as she was a sheltered child who wasn't allowed to go out with the other kid's with mother's fear of her being kidnapped, attacked by germs, and someone slipping a pill in her juicebox- to have fun, she found comfort in discovering many hobbies alone such as knitting and reading non-fiction books. She get's excited about little things very easily; for instance, the day can instantly be brighter if she remember's she has mango salsa in the refrigerator. Lastly, a dreamer with a strong sense of wonderment. She's always concocting a shenanigan to create a new opportunity, first memory being creating raffle tickets at the age of five, selling them to the neighborhood kid's for money, with Beanie Babie's being the prize. After her parents found out, her parent's made her return the money to the kid's, feeling bad- she gave them all one of her beanie babie's anyway. Her parent's mantra became "what did you do nowwwww Aaaaamyyyy!! Most importantly, the first thing you will notice about Amy is that she wears her heart on her sleeve, and has a genuine care for each person she meets. She marches to the beat of her own drum in a very optimistic way!
